Christian salvation is based on faith in God. We would only enter into a relationship with God if we believe He does exist. Of course, His existence does not depend on whether or not we believe He exists, but our response to Him does depend on what we believe about Him. First of all we need to make up our minds that God does exist and is a real Person, the One who created everything, knows everything and is present everywhere. In a very real sense He is always present with us. We also need to believe some basic things about His personality. God is good, and rewards everybody who seeks Him. In other words, He is not a vindictive or harsh Person, but rather a loving and merciful Person, wanting to be good to everybody. God is also Holy, which means that He does not participate in or condone any evil. Since the practical reality of our lives shows that we do not share this holiness, but rather enjoy and often prefer things that our hearts tell us are wrong and should not be done, there is a separation between God and us: Even though He loves us, we keep Him at a distance by being bent on evil and preferring evil to good. God is also just, and should really punish us if we offend Him by doing what is evil. Being a Holy God, He cannot accept evil. Being a Just God, He has to punish evil. Loving us, who insist on doing evil, places Him in a predicament - how does He respond to this predicament? How does God reconcile His justice, holiness and love? He made a plan that shows both His love for us and His wrath over evil and sin (sin is to do what is against God, what is not good). He decided to take the punishment for our sins upon Himself - thus satisfying His Justice and Holiness. Now He is free to offer freedom and the posibility for every human being who would accept this substitutional payment for his/her sins to be reconciled with Him. How did He pay for our sins? Death is the punishment for sin, so He died on our behalf. God came to earth and lived here as Jesus Christ (The Anointed Saviour). He never sinned (i.e. He never gave in to do evil, even though He was given many opportunities to do so). Thus He had no sin that He should die for, yet He died for sin. He was killed on a cross, and clearly stated when that happened that He died by choice, as a payment for everybody's sin. All our sins were placed on Him and He suffered the punishment we deserve. In this way God demonstrated His love for us and His grace towards us, while He also upheld the Truth and remained true to His nature.
How can we benefit from this gracious saving act of God? We can choose to believe that He actually did that, and receive that payment for our sins. We can accept that He died so we need not carry the punishment for the evil we have done. It is only this substitutional death of Jesus Christ that provides a way back to God. Once we have accepted this payment on our behalf, we are able to enter into God's presence again free of guilt. We have found peace with God. But that is not all He did. He was also raised from the dead after three days, and that makes it possible for us to also live a new life, because He invites us to accept His eternal life as a free gift. So we are able to move beyond our broken lives enslaved to evil. He gives us a completely new life - and makes us participants of His nature. He also sent the Holy Spirit as a deposit of this reality to live in us now, so that this eternal transaction of salvation can be worked out in our practical lives right here on earth. We are constantly being changed to become more and more like Him as we live in the reality of being reconciled to God. If we are reconciled with God, like Him we start to shun evil and do good. Since He has loved us enough to die for us, we are free to surrender our lives to Him and live for Him alone instead of for ourselves or enslaved to sin and evil. Everybody on this road is a Christian and lives in the reality of Christian salvation. To see what this means in my life practically, you might want to read my testimony. To see why I chose to be a Christian, you might want to watch the Free Introductory Video (Ministry Focus) video. To also receive this free salvation and start to live a new life you need to choose to believe that He exists, that He rewards those who seek Him, and that He has died so that you can live. If this what you want to do, then we invite you to do the following:
