If you know that you have drifted away from God (maybe you have given up trying because of your constant failure for so long), then you probably also struggle with a sense of failure and might even wonder if you have not offended God so much that there is no more hope for you.

I can only respond to this with a short personal note: I failed God so many times because of my own secret love for sin that I was convinced that He will never take me back - in fact I did not even believe myself when I made a commitment to turn back to God. I abused His forgiveness so many times (sinning willfully knowing that He will forgive) that in the end I did not think I could even dare to ask for forgiveness again. My life was so steeped in falsehood and secret sin that I lost all trust in myself and ended up not being able to believe that it was possible for me to make a decision and carry it through. Yet my life did turn around when I finally placed God first in my life. It took time, but I can, by God's grace, now look back to many years of knowing that abundant life that the Bible speaks about (Joh 10:10).

Maybe you have believed the whisper of sin in your ear that it can give you the fulfillment you want, only to end up disillusioned, now also without hope of change because you turned away from God knowingly. How can you turn back to Him after having lied to Him (and many others, possibly your loved ones) for so long? How can you appeal to God again after having so openly spurned His love?
