Why is it necessary for us to let go of sin? Isn't God unfair to require of us to stop doing the things we enjoy so much?

It is a very common view that we should stop sinning so God would not punish us. We also often think that God is robbing us from the enjoyment of life because of the things He requires of us to leave behind.

The truth is, however, that it is not God who punishes us, but our sin that destroys us and robs us of inner life and peace. God knows this, and because He loves us He wants us to stop doing the things that destroy us - and in fact died to give us a way of escape.
